Default GPS questions

I want to buy a gps for the RG. I have had an OLD basic Garmin unit in my truck for several years that has served me well. Can you choose your own route on the newer units? Mine just takes me the shortest way which is usually by interstate. I would like to be able to plan my own route. I have looked at a couple online that includes satalite radio (with a separate antannae?) I have the stereo system on the RG so I am not really interested in that part of it. Any suggestions on a reasonably priced unit? Thanks, Suey

Garmin has several models that can handle downloads from your pc with planned trips.

I have a Zumo 550. I the XM antenna is optional, It unmounts from the bike quickly, is waterproof, does routes, has a car mount as well and is more rugged that a standard GPS. plays mp3s also

Great, Will the programable units come with the software to download those planned trips? Sorry,...Technology is moving much to fast for me. Thanks, Suey

Yes, it comes with MapSourse. You use this software to plan your route. HD also has software to use for the Zumo. HD Ride Planner: Link

Watch the video below to see how easy route planning is with MapSourse: Link

Harley's Ride Planner, for example, has a button to synch your route with the Zumo. Works great.

Even most of the older type will. The newer zumo's are really great. I have the 660 and love it. If you check around you should be able to pick up a 660 for less than a 550 costs.
I think I paid $500 for mine
You can also check with deals on some older units and save big bucks that will also allow you to add routes form the pc. I do not add routes to my 660 from my pc. The 660 maps and features make it so easy to add a route it is not needed. When I stop or get read to start the day I just search and add a route, takes about 3-4 min...
If you want a custom route then I use the mapsource and send it to the 660

Zumo 550 has been tried and true for the past two years. Taken many +2000 mile trips and have never been disappointed.
