Looking to upgrade the motor on my 05 Road King. I have read lots of the posts from Stage 1 upgrades to cam upgrades to big bores. I think I am pretty set on a Stage 1 kit from Fuel Moto but I also think I am going to try to go with the big bore upgrade. I am a big believer in "no substitute for cubic inches".
Not a huge fan of any dealer doing engine work(you never know who is working on it) so I am looking for suggestions from anyone who has any experience with someone in the NH area. I am not looking for the fastest thing on wheels but a nice solid reliable engine with a big bore kit and probably a cam change done by someone who knows what they are doing.
I know what the cost of the Stage 1 is, but what should I expect to pay roughly for a bore to 95" with my cylinders and a cam change(parts and labor).
Should I get the Stage 1 parts on it first or can I do it all at once. Concerned about the tuning aspect of the EFI module with a bigger bore and cam.
Check out R&R Cycles in Manchester (http://www.cart.rrcycles.com/). They do outstanding work. Both people I know with work done by them have very reliable builds. Don't know much on the cost but I think there's some basic info on their site.
Go over to R&R there the best around if you ask me. There all great guys service is great and they talk to you like a normal person not just some idiot. They will walk you through the hole shop and show you all there machines its awsome. I dropped my bike off last week for a bunch of motor work should have it back next week. Shoot me a PM if you want I can tell you who to talk to if you want
Last year the GF and I were down in NH in the car.I was looking for some chrome covers for my 06 Standard and some one on here mentioned R&R.I found the place and what a great bunch,I was given a tour of the shop,a very professional operation. If I lived in that area I'd be talking to them about a build for sure.I spent nearly an hour in there and came out empty handed, but had a great experience.
Bring it up to my house, you can even get your hands dirty. As long as you aren't doing any radical engine work, there's no reason you can't do it yourself with help if needed. These twin cams are very easy to work on. You can do everything at once or do it in steps, say stage 1 or stage 1 and cams, then big bore. Fuel Moto can set you up with a tuner and map for which ever route you choose to go. You also save a ton of coin doing it yourself and you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Something to think about.
