Talked to the dealer today about doing the hydrolic tensioner upgrade and cams, they recommended the SE203 Cams, with adjustable push rods. He asked what style of riding I do, and the specifics of what I already have (listed in sig). and I usually ride 2 lane country roads with a small amount of freeway riding. I mostly ride solo, cause my wifey has her own bike.
Is this a good set up? I know cam choices are crazy confusing. I want a bolt on, I don't want anything that will require compression mods.
Will the cams change the sound of the bike? How much of a gain shoudl I expect?
The 203's are good cams. The mid and upper range will be nice. The sound should be a tad lumpier and throatier. You won't be disappointed for sure. Go for it and enjoy.
I run the 203's. It will get a bit louder. They were just what I needed. I felt a nice seat of the pants boost. I didn't Dyno before or after so I don't have numbers.
SE203 cams, or Andrews 21 are good choices for a bolt in cam for touring bikes. They will feel similar to stock cams as far as power band, only more so.
depending on your exhaust, you could get 72-76 hp/ 80-85 ft lbs. You can pick up more gains with properly ported heads.
If those are the ones they put in the 95" sgII, those are great as far as basic SE cams go. they have a low LSA and good duration so they have a great lope at idle. And pull hard to.
I just put the SE 204's in my 04 EGC with an 88 and the SE upgrade hydra. plate, Timkin bearings, tensioners, oil pump, and oil breathers in the rocker box and a Stage 1 carb kit. Really made my V&H Ovals growl!!!! Gave it a really nice jump at the mid-top end. I ride mainly solo but the wife gets on once in awhile. We tow a trailer once in awhile as well to rallys. I used the stock pushrods for I did not want the headache of the adj. if I did not need them for I pulled the rocker boxes off. Not a problem. My .02 cents.
I had the 95 big bore kit installed on my 05 with the 203 cams. It is a low-to-mid range cam. Noticeable improvement over stock especially when 2-up, but my 09 96ci with Woods 555 cams is much better through the whole range. Wish I had kept the 05 dyno chart but I didn't so I can't compare #s

Stock except for SE Air Cleaner, V&H True Duals and a PCIII
I am running the 203 cams with stock head pipe, vance and hines ovals, se intake, and pcIII. It is a lot lopier at idle and has a close to stock power band but with a bit more power and it keeps making power much higher in the rpms compared to stock. They do the trick for me and if you plan on doing the 95ci kit in the future like I do, it will be a piece of cake to find a canned map for the pcIII.
203s are a nice bolt in cam. Ran them in my old 88 with stage 1 and 3.28 primary gearing. Really woke the bike up. They also gave it a little more lope at idle.
