Hello all! I have my eye on a nice 2011 Vivid Black FLHTK. This will be my first HD bike. I also have an opportunity to pick up a 2010 FLHTK, blue/black. Not my 1st choice, but its still new.
My question is; during searching I've found the differences to be the seat, exhaust, heat problem with exhaust. Is there anything else different that I'm not finding? I'm trying to decide if getting the 2010 and fixing these things is better than just getting the 2011.
Thanks!
there is a major difference in the electrical system- H-D is moving to a system where the controls ( switches ) activate a logic circuit, rather than the actual headlight voltage moving through the hi beam switch, the switch will tell the "brain" to activate the high beam circuit.
This should be more reliable and allows for some nifty safety stuff, like the bike can tell you if you loose the low beam while you are riding.
( Dan points out below that this is a softail thing for 2011- ---ooops)
there is a change in the cam supports
google:
2011_Model_Year_Technical_Forum.pdf
this should find for your the document from the announcement of the 2011 bikes.
they do one of these every year and when i was shopping I found the version for 2009, 2010 and 2011 to decide which bike to buy

Word is the 11 also has the improved SE compensator, there isnt any difference in the exhaust they both have the "hot" cat in the headpipe that the 09 did NOT have.

What are the details on the price differences? And is the 2010 "new" or used?

I would have responded sooner but I was distracted by your avatar.
The 2010 is new, but has been purchased by someone to give as a gift. I would be the 2nd owner, but it has never been ridden.
I do like the changes made to the 2011 after reading the pdf. It seems it may make troubleshooting be next to impossible, but scan tools are quite beneficial.
Not that it matters, but this has been true since 07....
