Have taken the outer fairing off & then the inner fairing to paint the inner. Going back together & now the outer does not want to go together right. It is out at the bottom. Seems like the radio is not in all the way, but the 4 bolts line up on the radio. If I loosen up the 4 big torx on the fork, will the inner move enough to make a diff? Had it apart a dozen times last night but got so mad I said enough is enough & went inside. Might give it a try later tonight. Anyone else had this problem?
You did the Right thing to walk away had the same problem with mine .. After cooling off and sleeping on it next time pulled right up together .. Check it over several times be patient and i know that ain't easy, at least for me and it will come together ..
Something is wrong. It should line up without having to force anything. I would suggest something is in wrong or you brackets aren't in the right place. Also check and see if some of the wires are in the wrong place and causing the misalignment.
Now mine is an 89 5 bolt windshield trim and has been off too many times to keep track but I generally get all the bolts in , 4 inside fairing on either sides of headlite windshield trim and the lower 4 bolts at lowest point of fairing inner then I push everything in tight and snug up the windshield trim then inside of fairing ( 4 bolts ) then last the lower 4bolts.
Mine did this for a whole damn week until I finally noticed the antenna was pushing down over the lower chrome whateverthepartis called below the headlight. It was fine with the cap off, but when putting it on, it wedged in just enough so none of the bolts lined up. Probably not it, but worth taking a look.
Went out there today & aside from the headlight out of it & the bolts out of the radio, it lined right up even holding the headlight in place. So I pulled it back off & checked to see if the bolts were lined up on the radio (they were so I put them back in) and went back together.
The date on the photo's should not be there, but for some reason when it asks for the date & I hit cancel, it just throws it in there. As for the 3 bag they came with the bike. Probably HD, the previous owner got a lot of parts from the dealer. They are also old.
