Default SERT useless without bike?

I still have the SERT from my 08 that insurance company bought. The SERT is useless without the bike, right?

No, there is a company that will reset them. I also think the Vin is reset if you upgrade it to TTS Mastertune, but check on that.

And even if the unit is locked to a different bike than yours you can still read the diagnostic codes out of your new bike so, no it's not worthless.

Maybe I'll call the dealer then. I thought it was junk. I don't need it but if it's worth something, I'd sell it.

The dealer will not reset it. It's another company that does the resets.

If the SERT was never connected to the bike, it has value as it doesn't "marry" to the ECM until it is connected. You can also have it upgraded to the TTS Mastertune and they can set it up so that you can use it on two bikes.

The SERT was on/used for my old bike. I have the box still.

I used the one from my 08 SG (wrecked, total loss, insurance co bought it) on my 09 SG. The dealer made it work, reset it, whatever, no problem. Oh, wait, but it's SEST, not SERT. That probably makes a difference.

I'll see if I can find the company again. I found them while researching TTS Mastertune. Probably not much price difference between a reset and just upgrading to TTS. It's 100.00 to do that. I would call them.
