I like the E3's but i have to admit the Pirelli Night Dragons i have on the bike now is the best tire i have had yet....might be the Dyna beads...first time i have tried them.
thanks for helping me out i have worked on cars alot and know tire sizes , but i drew a freakin blank and my brain locked up trying to figure out which ones i needed. thanks guys
An MT is nominally 130mm wide and an MU is 140mm wide. The MU85 is 85% profile, the MU90 is 90% profile, in other words a little larger in diameter (90% of 140mm) than an MU85. Avon make an MU90 equivilent, but also a 150/80 of the same load rating that may go in there, just to give you another option! It has almost identical rolling diameter of an MU85.
While the MU designation is supposed to be a 140 m.m. wide tire it is not in reality. The MU Metzler is closer to a 150 m.m. than a 140. I have measured both. My MU measured 146 m.m. wide.
"Advertised" and "actual" tire size does vary greatly among manufacturers and models. The E3 MU90-16 is the widest rear tire you should try to put under that 06 without interference with the drive belt, just measured mine at 145mm. I'm sure somebody will claim they got away with a wider tire with no problems. Just remeber we're talking about an 06, not an 07 with a narrower belt, or an 09 up with the wide rear end.
So can someone please tell me the correct E3 tires to get for my 2007 FLHRS? With all of the great reports on here I suppose that is what I should go with. I seldom ride 2-up and do not "tour" with my bike, so I suppose loading is not an issue. I usually do 100 to 300 mile day rides and enjoy the back roads. If the E3 is good for that kind of riding which ones are the best fit for my bike. Or, if the E3 is best for heavy tourers and not especially for my bike what tire would you guys recommend? Thanks.
