Do brake calipers wear out?

Yes, the 99 had the older style calipers like on the EVO's. 2000 started the newer style

Just a dumb question. Check the specs on your bike for the correct brake fluid. I don't think dot 4 or 5 was out in 1999. If the spec is for dot 3 the dot 4 or 5 my have additives in it that aren't compatable with the 99 seals.

Thanks Dawg. Been doing brake work since the early 70's and never saw a caliper system with the seal on the piston slideing in the caliper. With this type of system you really need to measure the bore of the caliper. Also I like to save a few bucks when I can but I would not use any no name brand seals or pads. I did the pad on mine about 6 months ago and saw pads as little as $12. on ebay. Of course they were generic. I just bit the bullet and drove $40 miles to the dealer. No telling what the pads were glued together with or what's in the rubber that they make the seals from. If it was me I would stick with at least a recognized name brand.
