I was getting about 8k on 402s rear.... I've put about 5k on the E3 now, and tread depth looks deeper than a new 402 still. I'll be usin E3 for the rest of my forevers now...
My bike is now on its fourth tire and second E3. The first two D402's lasted 10k each while the first E3 lasted 20k. This newest tire only has about 6k on it but appears to be wearing like the E3 it replaced. Compared to the D402's, grip is better in both wet and dry conditions and groove-tracking is all but gone, so like you I'm very enthusiastic about the E3. I'm still amazed they can handle like they do and last so much longer.
dumb question alert what is size difference in mt90-16 and mu90-16 which should i run on the rear of my 05' road king custom i thought mt90-16 was right but want to be sure... oh and will it be ok to run a new e3 rear with my dunlop 402 on the front ?
I have been using E3's since I wore out the stockers. Love the E3's, just replaced my rear tire, which had 14.5k miles on it and replaced due to some feathering of the sides and pretty much wore down to indicators. The front has 14k and still going strong. Highly recommended tire and won't run anything else. I ride primarily two up 95% of the time and they have worn great with the added weight.

MT = 130, MU = 140 Usually use MT on front and MU on rear. You shouldn't have any problem running the 402 on front but if you really want to get the true handling benefit change it also, they are usually only around $100.
since the e3 fits 08 and older and the american elite fits 09 and newer really no way to do a real comparison.
that's what I thought also, as before I bought my last set of E3's I looked at the Am Elites and the sizes did match up, all seemed to be bigger for the newer (>08") models. Also would have seemed odd for dunlop to have a competing line with their E3's if they were not going to discontinue them.
