How many mounting brackets are used on a thunderheader for a touring bike? is it just the one in the rear under the bag? i have a chance to buy a used one with no mounting hardware and just wondering what i will need to get to install it.

there is a tranny bracket that is also used. My guess is that is whats missing. You can buy the hardware from Rich Products.

 

I installed a 2-1 Thunderheader on my 2001 FLHT a few years ago and it came with a tranny mount. To install the mount required removing the chrome transmission cover to install the bracket, I decided to install the header without the trans bracket. It worked great with just the rear mount at the saddle bag. Rode it over 30K mikes without a bracket.
