I don't have a 2010 so I can't comment from that perspective.
But oil consumption through the valve guides can sometimes (if it's bad enough) be diagnosed by evidence of smoke at initial start-up after sitting for a while.
A quart/thousand miles is not common. I have a 10 plus had others and never used that much. Late models never used any for me, older bikes used a little bit but never that much.
I'd be talking to dealer.
I don't have a 2010 but like Chuck stated, 1QT every 1K seems to be tooooo much. Does it smoke on start up or does he notice oil cpming out of the pipes while he is riding?
Sounds like defective valve seals, my '05 had them. It never used oil but at about 25K it gulped two quarts on a two thousand mile trip. I told the service dept. about it and they changed out the seals on warranty. 67K now and it still doesn't use oil between the 5K mile service intervals.
If no signs of leakage, valves seals looks like a great place to start .. 1 QT in 1K, Even my old ironhead didn't use that, unless ready for a rebuild..

Friend bought last summer new Ultra (Still 100% stock), says she's using QT per K. Still under 10k on her.
He say its a common Valve guide issue on the 10's, I told him I've not heard of any problems.
Anyone heard or have a problem with the 2010 motor with oil usage.?
I normally had to add 2 - 3 quarts every 5000 miles. Finally from 15000-20000 miles it hasn't used a drop. I never seen my bike smoke and none of my buddies could see it smoke.
That's entirely too much oil useage. Hell that's almost measurable by miles per gallon. He needs to be up his dealers *** about that and demand it gets taken care of and the sooner the better. Spring is just around the corner.
Don't have a 2010. My 2007 will not use a drop UNLESS I am blowing down the super slab at 75-85 MPH. Then it used about a half a quart on my personal best mileage (782 miles) for one day.
