Help with new headers
I just unpacked my new BUB Standard True Dual Headers and I noticed something weird on the rear header heat shield, see attached picture.
There's 2 small welds at the openings of one of the clamp brackets preventing you from getting a hose clamp through. Has anyone ever seen this before?
The rear heat shield has 4 brackets for the clamps. I called BUB and they told me that the rear heat shield only uses 3 clamps. Why would they weld on 4 brackets and then intentionally force you to only use 3 of them? Plus, they give you a total of 9 heat shield clamps. There's 4 brackets on the rear heat shield and 5 on the front shield. Why would they give you 9 clamps if they intend for you to use 8?
Would you cut out the welds with a dremel or send them back?

Hey, How does the rear pipe run? Does it run the traditional way like the 08s or does it come out right side and under bike like the 09 pipes? Just wondering how close the rear pipe is to the coil and plug wired on the 09. I like the traditional look of true duals but am concerned about the heat being so close to coil and I have never seen one in person. Now for the heat shield I would just use the 3 and save the extra clamp for when one breaks. It is very strange that they would set it up like that though.

how ever u cut the weld dont get the metal to hot or the outside will blue then your screwed. there goes your warranty 90 days or not.

Look at the mount position on the bike...
Could it be that particular bracket aligns with something on the bike which will not allow it to be placed/installed? Sometimes there are real reasons for stuff to be done like that...

I'm guessing that Bub found a problem with using that mount and decided to just weld it up instead of scrapping the whole batch. Could be that using that mount will CAUSE problems if used. I'd check with them on an explanation before doing anything.
