Simple cam change; yeah right. Pulled the cam chest apart to install Feuling's 574 cams. Looking over everything I find some minor scouring on the oil pump, scavenging pump and cam plate. $104 in parts no problem. Get the cam plate in, no crank bushing, one more week. Well in the week of boredom I decide to pull the exhaust (Klockwerks double backs allow pulling the cam chest with exhaust on) to polish the fins on the jugs; which turned out awesome BTW.
Looking at the exhaust I decide to call around and get a price on ceramic coating. $100 at Cherry coating in Washington NC. No brainer, I pull the heat shields off to send the pipes out and what do I find, massive rust on the backside of the heat shields. Soo a trip to the local chrome plater and $120 more and I have freshly plated shields.
you keep the bike in an enviromentally controlled room and trailer it in an enclosed trailer wherever you want to take it.
Nothing stays new forever, if you ride it , it will require maintenance. Rust is oxidation meaning the metal it returning back to its natural state, that is a process that will affect all metal given a long enough period of time.
Maybe the folks with the flat black rattle cans are on to something ..
Yep happens to me all the time, think of some small item to do, turns into a major project and a wheelbarrow full of cash.
But on the bright side, things are looking up the friggen ground hog saw his shadow. Early Spring. If it doesn't happen I'm going to kill and eat the critter
Ride Safe, Road Hazards are everywhere !
Fired the bike up last night. Cranked right up, minor oil leak on newly installed oil pressure guage. Bike sounds awesome, awesome throttle response. Added the autotune and run again. Can definetly tell the difference.
I had the exhaust ceramic coated, best $100 I ever spent. Even without the heat shields (which I hope to get back from the plater soon) you can feel a lot less heat coming off of the pipes.
Just need my new map from Jamie, and some good weather.
