Default Back and Forth on this Decision

I just had my 2010 RK tuned using a TTS by my dealer. The bike is fairly stock with a Fat Cat Boss (concentric baffle) 2 into 1 and a Ness Big Sucker. The dyno tune said I am getting 73.5 max HP and 86 lbs. of TQ. I will say it ran quite well on the way home. I have been considering putting a cam in the bike (I have asked questions about cams in other threads). My cam choice would likely be a SE 255 or possibly a SE 204. My question is what approximate increase in HP and TQ should I expect with one of these sets of cams? If it isn't a whole lot, I will wait a year or two and consider doing a 107 upgrade when my finances allow. You humble opinions on this are very much appreciated.

Lastly, please let me know the names of a good indy shop in the north or north west Atlanta area that could save me some money over what the dealer would charge for the cam install.
Brent.

IMOA I would probabaly wait on the 107 build, you could increase both TQ and HP by 20 with the addition of a cam but the concentric baffle on your D&D Fat Cat would be restrictive. Ive got the woods tw 6 cam with standard Boss 2:1 Fat Cat 91HP 100TQ waiting on the funds to do a 107 fuel moto, good luck with your choice

Call Kevin at Pro Twin. Super nice guy and not far from you.

Tell him you have a budget this year and will be wanting a 107 next year.

You'll probably get a new set of head gaskets and a cam right now to give you a little bump.
The cam will work even better when you get the heads and big bore done next year.

Those numbers seem low, but we'd really need to know your baseline #'s 1st.

If you are thinking seriously about doing the 107 I'd wait for it. Otherwise you will be spending money on some of the same things twice.

I think your numbers are low. An FL model, in SE stage I trim (SE A/C and SE Street Performance mufflers) should make about 80HP/90TQ. D&D's dyno chart for your pipe on a bagger in Stage I trim made 78HP/88TQ; pretty close to 80/90 above. So, it would appear that your tune could be improved or the concentric baffle is too restrictive, or both. Might be better to work on experimenting with a baffle change before moving on to cams; looks like you could pick up enough there to register on the butt dyno.

As for cams, if you decide on a cam only upgrade, the SE204 installed with a 4* advance gear will work for your 96" stage I package and will also work in a 103" package installed straight up, i.e., no advance gear. Some guys are putting up some very good numbers and nice TQ curves with the SE204 in a 103" platform.

if you're considering going up to a 103 or 107, then if it were me, i'd just enjoy riding it the way it is until you can afford the whole package=big bore, cams, pistons etc.

Are the baseline numbers what it was putting out before the tune or something else? I do not have a before and after dyno chart. The bike is making pretty good power by my seat of the pants estimation.

Interesting note about the baffles. If going to a different baffle will boost HP, I would be all for it. Is that easy to do the change with the Fat Cat and would I have to retune the bike if I changed out the baffles?

Thank you,
Brent.

The baffle's holding you back. The concentric's designed to be quiet, not make power. That baffle'll kill you if you change cams or go to a 107.

I agree on the baffle but I also think for a modest investment this year a set of cams could make a night and day difference in rideability. A 107" is quite an investment + labor = $$$$. Just my opinion but if you just want to get to 90+ hp & tq just change your baffle and add a set of cams. Fuelmoto is getting mid 90's with a similar setup with tw-555's. Lots of shops have winter specials on labor this time of year, not sure about Atlanta. Just my opinion but from stock to mid 90's is awesome, from there to 100+ is great too but look at the difference in $$ spent to get there for a modest increase.....
