For all you riders with apes/mini apes; do they hinder bike control or lean angle on aggressive twisty riding?
For the forthcoming comments that baggers are not made to do aggressive riding on twisties; I know but am still curious about whether apes/mini apes allow you to ride that way without much difficulty.
I've got 10" apes on my 06 RK and they set you back a little bit and put a little bend in your elbow.I'm very comfortable going thru curves. If I was a bit taller I would go with 12" apes. All in all I wouldn't go back to stock. One of the best changes I've done.
IMO.. 12inch and under do not hinder! once you start getting in the 16" apes and bigger then the twisties get hamperd. But in all honesty depends on the individuals rideing style and experience. Some guy with tall apes swear they handle the tight turns just as good as drag bars.
Put a set of 12" Wild Ones 502's last week end, no test ride yet, weather sucks but I don't see any reason they would hurt my handling. If anything it would be better because I can reach the bars better plus there a little wider which means better leverage.
+1 on the mini apes. They actually feel better to me than the stock bars which I didn't like at all. It was the first thing to bug me when I got my 09RG, so I got Wild Ones.
I had 13" Cyclesmiths on my Street Glide now 14" Wild 1's on My Road Glide, I can't wait to drag my running boards on twisties. I feel as though the bike handles and feels better with apes.
