I had an 07, completely stock cruising 70 - 75 I got around 38mpg, changed the exhaust and ac, mpg went down to around 32, put a tuner on it, got better performance and mpg went back up to around 37. But at 65-70 the mpg jumps up around 10%.
My 07, running the highway with the cruise set, the wife on board with me, gets 48-50 at 70 mph. I shift at 3000, and set the cruise at 70. Just puttin around, it goes down to 40. Mine is bone stock.. I was getting 52 going to Arkansas last year.
I've got an 09 FLHTCU that new got @ 38 mpg. After break in and service trips got up to 42 / 43 mpg. My 92 FLHTCU riddenthe same way was consistenly @ 49 mpg on the road. What do they advertise "Your mileage may vary" -- I see that Mr AlCherry states that he got 52 mpg on a trip last year ... I've been in 46 of the 50 states and never got above 50 mpg. All his riding must be downhill. ( ha ha )
I used to get 43-45 when cruising at 75 or so and upper 40's at 60 mph, stock other than Hooker slip ons at that time. Now I get around 37 mpg after changes you can see in my sig.
I get 44 on the highway at 65-80 mph and in the 30s around town on my '01 roadglide. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm solo or two up fully loaded. A fellow rider on one of those other touring bikes told me that I was getting excellent milage.
You will find that you will get much better fuel mileage when they change to"summer mix" I know I do , and if you ride in town a lot that will also make a difference.
I was told recently that a street glide with a 103 engine will get roughly 160 - 180 miles per tank. That seems seriously low.. and the math comes out to around 27 - 30 mpg. Any truth in that? Seems a little ridiculous, even for a 103.

I have an Ultra with FI (no reserve switch) and I start looking for a fuel station at around 160 miles, just because I'm the nervous sort about that. Perhaps that's what the person meant that you were talking to.
