I've had my 07 Electra Glide UC for about a month now and have put approximately 1000 miles on it. I've been getting consistently 33 MPG. Is that about normal for this bike? Most of my riding is on the Interstate at 75-78 MPH. When I shift gears, I usually shift at about 2500 - 3000 RPM. With a 5 gal tank, it doesn't give me much touring distance before a fill up. It has a V&H true duals and K&N filter, other than that, its bone stock. I do use Premium (91 Octane or above) gas.
if you cut back to 68-70 mph, you'll get noticeably better gas mileage. if you notice the over the road trucks have slowed down for the most part. they know that whenever you get over 65 to 70 mph, the fuel mileage suffers. rapid acceleration, and even blipping the throttle while at a stoplight just to hear your motor is another thing that can realy dip into your fuel economy. even though most of our bikes are fuel injected, you remember the squirt of fuel that goes into the motor with the accelerator pump on a carbed bike of past years? that's fuel that's being wasted just to hear the motor. wow man, you're out near browns plating, one of the truly great chrome shops in the country.
Thats a little on the low side, you should get closer to 40, maybe more cruising at 75. Get it dyno tuned, should help both power and mileage. Check tire pressure too, that can make a difference.
my 07 UC got about 36-38 running 75-80 depending on where I am in the pack, got that since day one with it stock, now get about 41 with rinehart TD's, SEAC, SERT, andrews 26 cam, gear drive. Have had it retuned didn't like the last on. took it to Ocala Harley and it has increased just not sure where yet.
On most hiways I run around 65 just because I am just taking my time. I am getting about 43 mpg doing that. But like most have said on the interstates where you have to go faster you will suffer a bit.
wow man, you're out near browns plating, one of the truly great chrome shops in the country.
Brown's Plating is about 5 miles from my house. They are in our fire district so we get a tour about once a year through the plant so we have an idea what we're looking at to put out a fire. They have a pretty impressive operation. Thanks for the response. I'll slow it down a bit and see what happens.
SugsPa, I'm not far from you,(60 miles) and if i run 65 to 70 2 up with luggage i get around 36 to 38 depending on headwinds. Running 2 lanes at 60 to 65 it jumps to 40 to 42.
