C'mon you guys...what could possibly go wrong with putting your address on the internet, telling the world they have an open door to a $20K motorcycle and probably a garage full of tools? Where's that old, "I'm a member of HD Forums and everybody here is a brother" spirit?

I always help anyone when I can....... However I agree, sorry to say there are MORE than one $hit head out there. For me, I do a complete service before a road trip, going over the whole bike and take care of any problem before I leave. I want to spend my time riding and enjoying my vacation, not meeting new oil changing friends..... just me 2 cents.

Be Safe JIM

I agree with most of these guys.....I live in the dark ages so it would be hard for people to get here from the main road...

Or you could pay a dealer to do it. Less than a 6,000 mile trip and you're fine on fresh oil.
Did exactly tht last year, rode from NE Oh to Utah and at 5k mark in Moab, went to the Autozone, , bought the oil and pan, had carried a filter and wrenches with me. Went back to the motel, went swimming while the bike cooled down, changed the oil and filter, put the used oil back into the bottles and took it back to autozone. No muss and done right.

I would have done "most" of it the same way.

Not the last part.

.....put the used oil back into the bottles and took it back to (edit: the dumpster in the hotel parking lot).
So sue me.

Gotta say I agree with this one...we took the new bike out to see the new grandson and while we were there, my son and I bonded over an oil change in the parking lot of his apartment complex. Gave a lot of folks the opportunity to tell me how nice the Candy Root Beer color was!

When Im trippin (on my scooter) I hit the Dealerships. They know Im ridin hard and on the road so they throw in a little extra TLC lookin things over ~ they've never failed to find a few loose bolts. I always get loads of great info while Im waiting, like where there's a party or Scooter Bar - best place to stay or camp etc. I've never had a bad experience from a Dealership when I tell them Im on the road. They're a great place to just stop and get road info - trip info. That's the "New Way" to go road trippin these days I've found.

Thats My $.02 & It's Worth Every Cent

I just change mine before I go. If I was gonna be longer than 5,000 miles I'd either just take it somewhere or if it wasn't gonna be too over just let it wait til I got back.

Sad but true. Had an employee about ten years back call and ask if he could get a ride to work cuz car was in shop. I picked him up. While waiting at a cross walk, the guy behind us let foot off his brake and tapped us. Didn't even leave the slightest mark. My employee filed a claim against the guy for whiplash and said he was too hurt to work anymore. The other guy's insurance told him to **** off. Then my employee sued me for negligence, WTF?

Lost a lot of trust that day. And a $10k deductible to my comp carrier before finally "winning" the case with the help of a $20k lawyer.
