I'll just hit my HD POI's on my Zumo GPS and proceed to the closest dealer if I need to be serviced while on a trip. Will give me another reason to pick up an out of state HD T-shirt lol

My brother's shop ( Greg Coen Motor Company ) in Springfield, OR. will let travelers do their own oil change in the back lot of the shop, if you buy the oil and filter there. The oil pan and old oil barrel for recycling are right close. He will also put travelers wanting tires in front of the waiting list and has great prices on tires. GCMC is one of the best aftermarket motorcycle shops in the NW. They work on Harley and Victory.

IMO, just take it to HD to get oil changed. I have my HOG Touring Handbook in my saddle bag all the time, in case of any problems.

Exacty. I'll be glad to help someone out if they're broke down on the side of the road, but if all they need is a simple oil change they should be smart enough to take care of it on their own. Back of the auto parts store, behind the quick lube place, whatever.

No no no, thats all wrong. Ride out into the woods, park your bike over a spotted owl nest, and drain the oil there. Then throw your old oil filter where a baby seal will eat it.

i can't imagine not doing your oil change before leaving your house. surely if you can't afford to get your oil changed during your trip, then you can't afford a trip long enough to warrant an oil change in the first place. i sure wouldn't allow someone i didn't know in to my shop.

I am no expert but this is what I do on my touring bikes which are a 2008 Buell Ulysses XT and a 2010 Ultra.

I start out the trip on fresh syn oil. Then during the trip I don't even worry about going even 10K before changing. I do check the level each day of course.

An engine run on the open road for day after day has cleaner oil that the bike that is ridden 30 miles to work each day. So the interval can be stretched out.

The easiest miles on a bike are those going 70 mph on the Interstate heading to the sunset.

Ditto! The numbers (30 miles/70mph) may be open to a little discussion but you get the point.
