As a small business man I understand the difficulty in sometimes giving a discount however thee are times I always do. I'm in a small town in Southwestern Ontario between London and Windsor just south of Chatham. I bought my 2003 RKC from the local HD dealer in September 2015. Since then I have blinged it out to the nines and am always looking for stuff to buy. I'm very impulsive and when I order something I want it yesterday. I was in there ever single week buying anything from plugs and oil right on up to a power commander, tires winshield etc since then. I always got a 10% discount across the board.
Recently this past December all discounts were stopped unless you had a bike less than one year old. I have been dealing with this dealership for about 7 years and have always been given this discount. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars over those years. I was pi$$ed when I was told no more, in fact their response was you have had your share of discounts over the years. No more.
In the last 6 months I have purchased approximately $3,500 worth of merchandise, parts and work done and not one penny went to them. Its guys like me that keep the place going through the lean months of the winter. I have been there on Saturdays where there was no one in their all day except me.
Like I said, I know how tough it is to give discounts, but any money above expenses is better than NO money coming in at all. Just my .02
there was a time when dealers were mom and pops and grew a customer base- a 10% for HOG was almost universal.
many are now bog parts of powersports groups and there are different employees there everytime you walk in.
I rarely give any business to my local dealer- I have no relationship with them...the last time I was shopping their "msrp" deal was loaded up with junk fees, I walked
I've been with the same dealer for 25 years now. Don't know if other dealers are following suit but I now get an automatic 10% off everything but labour. Customer names are in the computer and the discount is calculated and applied for every purchase. Yes, we used to get a HOG discount in the old days, I don't know why they discontinued that (cough, cough)
I've had good luck with Boardtracker. In fact, I just purchased a bunch of stuff from them. They didn't offer free shipping, as they used to in the past, so I chose the $5 shipping fee, which was the least expensive choice. Order was delivered from WI to FL in 3 days. 20% off & no sales tax made the purchase more like a total of 25% off.
Their website says allow a weak for order to be shipped. That is crazy in this day and age.
I may see if that is real, if I don't need it. But I usually expect it at my house in less that week Not a week plus shipping.

They're just another dealership - they don't stock everything. So, some this they have to order first. I've had great experience with them. But, if I need something right now, I just go to my local dealership.
If I didn't have to go to the dealer to buy a new bike, I'd never go.
If I can't get it online, I'll do without.............
Never say never, but I don't know if I will buy new again. Was awful experience. Bike left the factory like crap. Tourpak lock upside down. TPS grounded out at 4.5k miles rubbing on fins, days before the vacation I bought it for. Dealer was a-hole. Said he was to busy with next years model to get to the bike I spent $20k on 3 weeks ago. Kept having stalling problems. Dealers would just say, didn't do it when we rode it, or that they fixed something, and it would stall again.
With many things I say I will buy used, but than you decide you want something and can't find used.
But Harleys need 5k miles to work out bugs, and dealers suck to deal with warranty. Would rather it be out, and just fix it myself. I have talke to some dumb dealers, who do not know their product. 25k to get it all shook out.
