I recently added a set of Rush True Dual head pipes to my 2007 Ultra and it's way too loud. I have the basic Vance & Hines slip-ons with the baffles and want something quieter and to hopefully give me back the back pressure I need. I already have the SE breather and a PC III USB for fuel management, I just need some quieter mufflers. I know I'm going to get a load of suggestions to go with a 2-in-1 but I love the distinct sound of separate exhaust. I'm not chasing horsepower and torque and not planning any cam changes or big bore kits. What mufflers do you guys recommend?
Hey Ronnie,
I had a similar situation and was able to pull the baffle out of my Rinehardt mufflers and cover them with an inner layer of stainless steel wool fabric followed by an outer "pillow" of what looks like a fiberglass / ceramic wool. These materials were available from the link below. Before and after decibel readings taken in my driveway were only slightly better but during actual riding they really semed to help quite things down.
Check out the Bub 7 Stealth mufflers. Have installed on '09 CV0 Ultra and very pleased with sound. From your description, it's what you're looking for.
Love my Monster Ovals! Deep Low tone. Made ol' blue run and sound much better. I had V&H basics also. Sounded awfully tinny to me. No comparison to the MO's. Better back pressure, and the decel popping is almost gone. When it does pop its kinda like a "woof". I would imagine the Monster rounds sound the same, just different look.
I have a 2007 Ultra. Ness Big Sucker air cleaner. Stage One download. I really like the Screaming Eagle fishtail mufflers (I love my fishtails) I scored on ebay. They are OEM HD. Good mellow rumble that I can hear but not loud enough to give me headache from riding all day. And, they were cheap. Check ebay enough and eventually you can score a good deal.
Exhaust sounds are very subjective.
I suggest waiting until the weather breaks and have a listen for your self by going to hang outs, rallies. This way you know what ya are getting.
