Just had the service manager (cool guy) throw in the CD for the latest update (v8.11.0.). NEVER burn the CD myself, always letting the dealer do it in case of a problem....they always have a solid CD. Far as I am concerned, the HK system has been outstanding....but ya gotta have HOGTUNES to tap the real potential!
I've always done the updates myself. Never had any issues with burning them to disk. I just did another update and still have not had any problems with it.
Never notice any actual funtional difference with ANY of the software upgrades.....no one really knows exactly what they do.....obviously must improve the system.....somehow!
I downloaded the 8.11 software update from the HD web site this morning, burned it to CD (at 4x) and it installed perfectly. Can't tell any difference, but everything works fine.....
I can't can't answer for all of them but I know one of the earlier updates addressed the skipping problem some where having. Another one addressed an issue with not being able to read the MP3 format. Not sure on the rest.
A less expensive option than Hogtunes is the JBL GTO527 2ohm, 45W Rms, 5 1/4" Speakers - about $45 a pair on ebay. These speakers put out way better than the stock paper cone crap that is standard with the Harmon Kardon system.
