Question security siren

So I bought a 2008 anniversary ultra last Sept with 8k on it. I rode it until winter set in then put it away for the winter. So now over the winter months i have built a good size list of stuff i want to add to it. The Siren is one but im not sure. Since I already have the security system in place, whe i walk away the light blink etc. What else would the siren add if i had it? And does it make it any more secure with or without it. I'm very good about keeping the fob with me, but i havent entered my personal code as yet. This bike has way to many bells and whistles for my to figure out. I traded in my 93 anniuversay wide glide for this bike so you can see the tech difference between the two bikes. its like from the dinosaur age to the current. Bike I do miss the wide glide a lot, but the wife is happy now on the back.. so if she is happy it works for me. thanks Jeff

I have the same bike with the siren (HD). It's definitely plug and play and pretty loud and annoying. People definitely turn around when it goes off.

Having said that it's really just one of the things that might induce someone to choose another bike to ripoff. Nothing is going to stop a determined thief.

One suggestion, if you decide to buy the siren and you keep your bike in an unheated garage or shed, warm the plastic retaining clip with a hair drier and it will just snap into place.

the best thing is to have enough insurance coverage, you can add a radio shack siren for $6.00 or H-D for $85.00. click on link for radio shack install https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...arm-siren.html
then you can spend the money you saved on something else for the bike

I totally agree the Radio Shack works great and loud as hell. save the money for more goodies.

Question

Thanks, I think i will go the RS route for 6 bucks then. I also need 2 headsets since the PO kept them. I think i will go with the IMC motrcom. Just still not sure if it makes a difference while have the passenger. When I go snowmobiling we have communicators on our helmets and thats great, save a lot of time stopping and getting off to talk. I''m just not sure about how it will work out with the bike. Also when u ride solo do u use the headset ? or mostly when u have a passenger? thanks Jeff

The RS is a nice money saver..... however..... if you pull the side cover, all you have to do is yank the wires to defeat it.

The MoCo siren goes off if you unplug it.

The siren is just another thing to keep people away from your bike. Loud noises aren't something thieves like, & it embarrasses the tourons that think it's ok to sit on your bike.

We have bluetooth headsets so I can hear the commands from my GPS, & we can talk without yelling over the wind. We enjoy 'em, & it makes the ride nicer when we can talk about what we're seein' & where we want to stop, etc.

Someone in this forum a few weeks back was trying to add a switch to the siren so they could shut it off when they wanted to, but the switch was only operational when the ignition was on so a thief could not disarm the siren. Can't find the thread. Does anyone know if the guy figured out how to do that?

its been almost 6 months, don't wait any longer, go set your code. if the previous owner set one, and you don't know what it is, your manual will show you the procedure to retrieve it, and then change it.

after you get it set, practice starting the bike using it a couple of times. it's a lot easier to get familiar with it in the comfort of your own garage then out on the side of the road somewhere.
