Don't know what to say as chrome fork sliders are one of the first mods that I do. I tried to polish them while they were still on one of my bikes, I did such a bad job that I pulled them off and had them chromed. One of the few things that I will pull off and chrome.

Yeah, fork sliders are clear coated. Butt not very good. The white you see is moisture below the clear coat & the aluminum oxidizing. You only have a couple of options. Either clean all the clear off, re-polish the sliders & clear coat again. Or change to chrome or powder coated. Both will hold up better than stock.

I have to agree with changing them. I had the OEM forks on my 07 EGC and after about a year they started looking bad, tried everything, chrome fixed it, not to mention it looks a lot better.

As referred to above, "Sliders" are the lower fork tubes. The procedure to take them off is in the service manuals. You have to be comfortable with the wrenches, or have it done for you. Get the manual on CDROM on ebay for your bike if you don't have one, then you can print out the specific page you want, and the manual never gets dirty.
Myself, I wouldn't tackle that job. You might also find the lower fork tubes, "Chromed" on ebay, or if like me and you live close to Browns in Paducah Ky, you could drop them off and have them plated. Look at the ones on my bike in the sig pic.
Ride Safe, road hazards are everywhere.
