Default Handlebar change for 2000 Road King

Does anybody else get a kink(cramp) in neck and shoulder area after riding for a while with the stock handlebars.

The company changed the bars in 2001 and again in 2006 and something has to have developed to make the ride more confortable after riding awhile.

I have changed several bars for friends on fatboys, dyna's sportsers, etc. but have not done my own bike. Even put beach bars on a guys the other day.

Any body found a happy medium?

I checked into the reduced reach but have not tried any on my personal bike.

Any input appreciated

Chubby 518"s worked for me. You will need 4" oversize on the Idle, Throttle, and Brake. 2" oversize on the Clutch to give the best appearance and function without binding when turning handlbars from stop to stop. I ordered three bars from Chubbys sending back 508's, and 517's as the 518's worked for me on my 06 Road King.

Chrome Road King high bars, look great and will end that pain
in the neck and shoulder blade area.
Put these on my 06 FLHR,and very happy.
As a bonus, stock 06 cables fit.

I put 16" apes on my 2000 rk, I love em, no cramps at all, I am 5.7.5 tall, the only issue is parking lot slow speed turns you kinda get cramped turning, but I have gotten used to it, not a cramp all summer, put about 9K miles on them.

16 inch apes. They are easy to handle once you get used to them.

I changed out my Handlebars on my 07 Roadking this past weekend, HD part # 56569-86 Heritage Classic bars, tip width 31, base width, 11.5, rise 8.5, pullback 8. I did all the work myself (little help from my wife) , the job was not very hard but did take a couple hours. I used a 07 service manual and got some good information from http://www.moccoplace.com/images/harley/hbar/hbar.htm. All the original wires fit great without change out and the old handlebar grips do not need to be replaced, just be patient. My wife pulled off the left grip by twisting it back and forth until it came loose (only took a few minutes). You can go buy some griplock to put the grip on the new bars, if no griplock use epoxy or superglue. The longest part of the bar replacement is sitting on the bike after you partially tighten the allen bolts holding the handlebars to get an exact placement of where you want to permenantly want to bars placed (i took a half hour sitting on the bike to make sure of where i wanted them placed). The bars put me back so I am sitting straight up, they are very comfortable, well worth them. I advise everyone to do the work themseles, it's not very hard to to, just takes a couple hours, you will also save $300 to $400 from installation cost from MOCO doing the work (buy chrome instead). 12 1/2" Physco Chubbys did the trick for me.

Same for me. You can buy these for $50 or less. I even ran the wiring inside the bars, no extensions needed. Really cleaned up the front end. It's a simple swap but you need to pay attention to the service manual and take your time. You will be pleased with the results.

It's really difficult deciding on which bars will work for you. I read all the measurement charts and only got a vague idea of what would help. You can't even sit on some else's bike with the same bars and get a real indiciation of how they'll fit unless it has the same seat as your bike. It's all tied in together as to how it helps you and your bike fit together.
