Default GPS Advice

I am looking for the best user friendly GPS to mount on my E/G.

Now have a Tom Tom XL-1. What I don't like about is that it is not water proof the mount I have is not lockable so I have to remove it whenever I am out of sight of the bike and most annoying is whenever I zoom out to a larger scale it automatically zooms back in to a very small scale.

What do you have and what do you like and not like about it?

Mind you I'm not saying a GPS is a bad thing and I'm quite sure I will get flamed.

First things first, take it outside and see how well you can the screen in direct daylight. If you can't it isn't worth the problem.

Second, do things the old fashioned way. Get some maps for the area you are to and use those. Store em in you saddle bag(where ever). Nice thing about maps they don't burn out, if you get em wet you don't care, if someone steals em it's a cheap replacement.

Kim:

Suggest you go to the following site:
http://www.gpscity.com/ram-mount-wat...ake-mount.html

We have a Garmin Nuvi 1300, which has saved our bacon on several occasions. Rolling Thunder "Ride For The Wall 2010" we were part of the 250 bikes chosen to ride as a group thru Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day. Afterwards, there we were, somewhere in the middle of this huge cemetery needing to get to our motel at
2480 South Glebe Rd. Arlington, WV. The Garmin (we call her GyPSy) took us right there. Much easier, by far, than paper maps...

As for the best make/model..., well, now we're into the old Chevy-vs-Ford, Harley-vs-Honda sort of thing. Go to the store and let the guys show you how they work. Do an online search for "GPS forum" and see if you can find your answer there. Don't be afraid to ask any biker you see with a GPS hanging off his handlebars.

We don't have the weatherproof case, either, altho we've ridden in rain, none-the-less. Besides, as easliy as it snaps in and out of the mount, we have no problem slipping it into our pocket after parking the bike.

BBStacker is right, GPS may not be for everyone but it sure works for my lady and me.

Good luck Kim...!!!

Deacon

Garmin ....... any model made for motorcycles. TomToms are famous for leading you into cornfields, using imaginary roads.... that's why I don't use TomToms any more.

Garmins have a better display, and can be seen in full sunlight.

I have the Zumo 550, and it works well for me.... has never, ever given me bad directions.

I also have 20 hours of music on it.

Garmin Zumo 550 - my vote.

Made for momo's. Lockable Mount. Can be used with gloves on. Weather/Water Proof, Can be seen in daylight. I own one after I did my research 4 years ago, looked at others, nothing compares to it, IMO.

I take the Garmin 1390 out of my car and mount it on my RK when I need it. I have it hardwired into my aux switch.

I use the SOP and RMPO versions of all the above. The SOP is the best one to mount on any bike.

I have an old NUVI 760, Music, bluetooth, FM interface....cheap...put a ziploc over it if it rains...i never use it unless i travel and then i turn it off for most of the way...I don't depend on it too much...i like to use maps, it gives me a better sense of direction of where i am going....I only use the GPS to find gas or food or if i am lost and that is very seldom....Hell getting lost is how i find out where i am going.
