Default King Tour Pak Backrest Options

I've ordered a King Tour Pak for my Street Glide. Howver, I really don't care for the look of the King tour pak passenger backrest with the arms on each side.

I am thinking of using either a Chopped tour pack backrest or even a Razor tour pak backrest pad and plugging the holes where the King backrest pad bolts on.

Are there any aftermarket backrest pads for tour paks that might do the trick?

Or maybe I can have the guys at C&C make me something custom?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I ride solo all the time,so I removed the big armchair backrest from my king tour pak.I installed the chopped back rest(had to drill some new holes,no template)and put some allen head bolts with hot toppers in the exposed holes.I like the look a lot better.Sorry no pics.

UPDATE - Chuck over at C&C sent me pics of a trick little backrest pad they make for tour paks. Since I usually ride solo, I'll probably get one of these in solid black.

How much is this pad? I might be interested in this as a cosmetic improvement.

I'm using no TP pad and only the backrest for my Mustang solo seat. I also ride only solo and this is what I came up with:

The plugs are automotive plastic panel fasteners, purchased on Ebay, that I tried to make more cosmetically pleasing using HD touch-up paint. When the backrest is in place the plugs are hardly noticeable. I self-tapped some nuts on the inside which in the absence of a backrest are required to secure the lanyard support plate (second photo). They have held solidly in >4 years of touring.

I found the HD backrests available at the time to be totally unacceptable for solo riding. I bought #52898-98A (smooth backrest for chopped TP) and it was positioned too far forward with no ability to adjust. It also left the lumbar portion of the back unsupported, so being supported at the top and bottom my back would flex with each bump. It took a five-minute ride to determine it wouldn't work for me and I returned it to the dealer. Instead, I'm using the Mustang seat backrest which has worked well for me.

BTW, I just emailed C&C for more info on the pad, including price and thickness. Will pass along any info I get.

Chuck quoted $119 plus shipping for a plain black vinyl backrest. That didn't include the HD Forum discount.

Do new king tourpacks come pre-drilled for the big backrest pads with arms or do them come solid where you have to drill them yourself?

Mine came drilled- the King TP will always have the holes for the King pad. I also put a chopped pad on my King TP, and had to drill a couple more holes. Haven't covered up the exposed holes yet- thinking of using a couple little HD medallions.

I wonder if you could order a tour pack a la cart from HD. I bet they sell all the pieces separately in case you damage something. It would be great of you could order the factory painted Chopped or Razor top thats undrilled for the big backrest, the factory painted King bottom, and the nice billet upgrade harware instead of the chrome steel standard items. You'd need the parts book to get the seprate top and bottom part numbers. I wonder what the cost would be verses just buying a regular King tour pack? At least you could get a king pack to run solo on the bike without that huge backrest or extra holes drilled in it!
