Because you emphasized "best price", just doing a cam change can really wake up the bottom end torque. There are many cams that will do just that.

Dave said it...I just installed a Andrews 26H in the bike and the grunt at low end is a nice addition...I still need to have it tuned a bit better to get better mileage...It runs very rich...I wanted some torque to ride 2 up in the hills and pull a trailer and i believe i found it...If i was to pick another cam i probably would've gone with the Woods TW6-6... The Screaming Eagle seems like it does good...little milder than the other 2 but a goold choice. I did all the work myself so the satisfaction on cranking it after the work was very gratifying.

Default Start with the cams

You can start with the cams, and if you don't get what you want, then look at adding the 103,107 or 110 kit.

There are many threads here on cams and which ones are best. I have just put the woods TW6 in my bike and I am really happy with the pull. I would also look at the Woods 555.

At 30,000 miles I had the cams changed. I wanted the cam chain tensioners checked so they only charge me $50 extra to do the cams.
I have a 07 Ultra and was very disappointed with the high 1st gear when loaded and 2 up

I figured if I wasn't happy with just the cams I could do a 103/107 later. Already gad the 96" jugs so just boring is all I would need.
12,000 miles later I am still pleased with the pulling.
There are many different cam's that will do what ya need. I had access to a set of SE255 cams so that's what I did to cut costs. There are better choices out there, this just happen to be mine.
I am using the PCV w/AT, SE high flow ac with the K&N filter.
I wanted something for touring, 2,500 to 4,000 rpms. The cams does what I wanted. But it pulls hard from 2,300 to 4,800 rpms.
I have changed my mind to do the 103/107.
your results may be different.
just a thought

I had the SE 255 cams in my 96"with Rinehart true duals, SE A/C and PCV with auto tune and the bike ran real nice! This combo made 2 up riding much more enjoyable with gobs of low end TQ but, do fall a little flat after 4500 RPM. These cams can be found regularly as CVO take outs for about $150.00 and make a huge difference in a 96" and sense you already have the PCV with auto tune a good base map should be easily found here on the forums. Do a search on these cams as several members have done some great write-up's on them. Good Luck!

I was in your same boat... I thought just doing Cams, then my wrench told me that if I wanted to do that while he's at it I may as well throw the 103 kit on there as well... He said I would be getting more bang for my buck...

Well I bought the 103 stage 2 kit that included the se 255 cams, and he is working on my bike as we speak...

I will let you know howI like her when I get it back, I hope i will have it back in the next 2 weeks.... I am getting other stuff cosmetically done..

Thats good advice. I did exactly this and found my woods 6-6 and header pipes from fuel moto did the trick. I was very surprised at the performance gains with a cam upgrade and are most happy with the 2-up performance.

lots of choices for cams in a 96, do a search and read for hours. don't get too caught up in it tho, the 96 really benefits from pretty much any of the cams you'll find mentioned in this forum, my pick was the woods 5-6 and I gained bout 11 ft/lbs and 15 hp over my stage 1. There's some good write ups on the forum if ya want to do it yourself as well, good luck!
