Question Heel/Toe Shifter Issues & Options, Suggestions?

Ok - so I did some searching on this already within the forum and did not find what I was looking for, yet.

1st I want to make one thing clear... I LOVE an H/T Shifter concept, so I ask kindly that we please do not turn this Thread into a debate on using Heel/Toe or not, TIA. :-)

I have ridden metrics my entire life - and the ones I have owned made the H/T shifters as one piece, OR two-piece but when joined they looked as one. And I found them all very convenient, comfortable and easy to "use". I wear a size 9 shoe so I fit within those shifter config quite comfy.

I absolutely LOVED the H/T I had on my Yammie Strat, so I want to find, or have someone make, or whatever something like that for my '09 UC.

My issue is - I know this sounds whiney - but after a day or two of riding I develop a sore muscle/tendon issue in my left leg and lower shin from having to turn my shifting foot inward to downshift. My feet naturally point outward - was a serious issue in my youth and I had to wear braces on my legs when I was but a wee lil tyke to correct.

So I am thinking either make or find some sort of extension that would push the front or upper shift peg out more from the bike, or find a shift lever that actually curves out from the shift crank thingy.

HD has those shifters so the back shifter sits out further and the front shifter sits more inward.

Ya gettin what I am puttin down here?

Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, links?

Thank you for any help in this matter.

- Christo

The shifter has a removable pedal, does it not? It should be a simple and cheap matter to machine an extra long foot pedal out of aluminum, tap it, and bolt it on the lever.

For those with a machine shop, you might be right. But for a computer nerd - not so much. ;-)

I was hoping maybe someone knew someone who knew someone who may have made one, saw one pre-manufactured somewhere - etc.?

I was thinking maybe some sort of extender for the pegs - I like my pegs, they are new ones, not the stock OEM's.

MNPGRider you are on the right track though!

christo, I didn't mean to imply you could make it your self, although many could. But every town has someone doing machining, and a simple item like that wouldn't take long at all to make. Just take the original lever and pedal in so they get the correct thread size.

I also just went out and looked at mine to see if this would work. The pedal is 2 1/2 inches long. The foot pegs on my engine guard are 4 1/2 inches long. There is room in your lower fairing to mount that foot peg in place of the shift pedal. You would have to cut off the solid mounting bracket tang on the end of the peg, and then drill and tap the end of the peg with the proper size thread....again, something a local machine shop could do in a few minutes. By using a foot peg you could get matching parts.

If all you are wanting to do is move the toe lever further out from the bike, couldn't you swap the shifters on the shaft? They have the toe shifter mounted inboard and the heel shifter mounted outboard.
I have never tried and and I haven't looked to see if there is a reason it could not be done. Just throwing it out there.

If I am understanding what you are asking for correctly, would an extended shift peg work for you? It would stick the peg out futher from the bike, actually quite nice its what I'm running currently and if you need more you could always have someone machine a spacer.

I thought the same thing - but the engine gets in the way. ;-)

The heel shifter can't get past the crank case there if you move it back further on that spline. :-(
