I would recommend the Road Glide. I must admit I am biased as I ride a 2010 Road Glide and it is the sweetest bike I have ever owned.

Someone on this thread said, "Happy wife, happy life". That made it easier on me when I got my Road King Custom. The wife liked the looks better (so did I). She liked the absence of the saddle bag guards as they would rub against the back of her legs (I liked the absence for the looks). She does not like the looks of the bat wing or fixed fairing (neither do I, in fact I bought a removable one for winter time use and rarely use it). She likes country music and I like rock and roll. So no shared radio is exactly the ticket for us. We each wear ear buds to listen to our own music (mine are hooked up to a Garmin Zumo 660 and hers to her iPod). When we aren't touring, I can strip off the Tour Pak and windshield. Oh yeah. We also love the look of a clean front fender. Life is good.

Thanks everyone, and I have an update.

We looked at both last night and have decided on the Road Glide. Both for the storage/features, as well as the instant positive equity on the deal, considering 0 miles.

I am getting my Bob back from a friend's house after this snow storm moves out and will probably try to get the deal done next week. I'll post pics when I get it.

Thanks again!

So, I have two bikes I am looking at and have what I think is a pretty solid deal options:

1. 2008 Road King (the one with the hard bags, sorry, I don't know the specific model). Black. 10k miles. Upgraded seat, back rest, and luggage rack. Just has some slip ons. $14,800

2. 2010 Road Glide, new. Black. Has most everything except for ABS. Stock seat, no backrest for the wife. Stock intake and exhaust. $18,000.

That is a very good deal on the Road Glide, but I know I will have to instantly upgrade the seat and get a sissy bar, luggage rack, etc.

I plan for this to be a VERY long term bike, putting about 10k miles on it per year. I am not a big stereo guy, but could probably get used to having one. Lastly, the Road glide is about $2k more than I want to spend right now.

So, all of that said, do you guys have any input/feedback? Anything I am not thinking of or considering?

Thanks in advance!

The road Glide is way too ugly for me, so I have a hard time NOT choosing the King.

You will hear much about "new frame" this and that. All BS if you aske me. Was nothing wrong with the "old" frame and nothing magic about the "new" frame.

There is only one correct opinion here and that is to ride both and buy the one YOU like. Who cares what anyone else thinks you should ride. Everyone is different and has differnet tastes.

You won't regret it...It handles like a dream...You will probably want a higher windshield so look at Longrideshields on here.
Ebay is a great spot to find deals on the other stuff IE:backrest etc...

The sickness begins all over again.

Good luck with your choice. That bike is going to be amazing compaired to your old bike, its made to eat up the miles with no effort and the radio is a bonus, lol. Stay safe and keep the shiny side up.

Thanks guys, yeah, I really like the look of the Road Glide, it's my favorite bagger with a fairing. All in all I just feel that if I skip on it as a good deal like that, I will regret it later.

Never had an RK so I can't say which is better. But I made the same move as you 5 years ago (FXR to RG) and it's worked out great. Our first trip was 3 months after taking delivery of the bike--4800 miles out west to four corners, then up through Monument Valley to Yellowstone, then back through the Black Hills and on home.

The comfort-related changes I made when I got the bike: A Mustang touring seat...Detachable tourpack w/backrest...a Clearview shield...and a detachable sissybar for when we don't need the box...My wife is a short-legged 5-2, so I added Kuryakin adjustable passenger pegs at a dealership in Utah, which I would recommend whichever bike you choose.

If I ever said anything about trading the RG, she would shoot me.
