Default ARNOTT-Bilstein or Alden.....Or the Alden really worth the extra money????

Forum,

I going to pull the trigger on the Arnott air ride system. My question is are the Alden series worth spending the extra $$$$. I ride 1up all the time and don't use a tour pack...I really just think air ride looks AWESOME. I do go for 300-400 miles runs just dont own a tour pack. Any and all feed back will be appreciated..Thanks forum!!!!

I am having the same issue deciding on which shock I want to purchase... From what I have discovered is that most people that have bought the Aldan shock dont really use the adjustable rebound.

And from the talks I have had with the people at Arnott is that the only difference between the two is one is adjustable and the other is not. As far as ride quality they said the bilstin shocks are a bit stiff and are designed for a 35 years old and younger group and the Aldans are for the older crowd. Whatever that means

I am 30 and I still want a good ride, I do some two up riding with the ole lady, and some boy trips with the buddies that are usually long hauls.

In the end I want to make sure that I am comfortable as I am now with my stock street glide shocks...

Oh and I want to ensure that these are reliable...

The rebound is a very nice feature and I think the reason most people don't use it they may be lazy and may not want to tinker a bit to find out what works for what conditions and loading. I have one of the first Arnott air rides back when they were still using QA1 shocks they have the damping settings also. I do use them and have norrowed it down to two setting for fully loaded down and riding solo. If your into just adjusting air pressure and don't mind the rebound slamming back when the bike gets unweighted then I would not worry about it. But used correctly you will enjoy them much more with dampening adjustments IMPO. It is quick and easy to do detach the bag fasteners lean the bag over turn the **** button your bag back up and go!

SICKBAGGER-Are you running a 18" back tire? Do you have 12" or 13" shocks? The one thing I don't want is bottoming out. I do enough of that already. I think that I read somewhere that if you loose pressure on and 12" shock with a 18" rear tire your screwed(tow truck time) and with 13" you can at least limp your way home.....

I have an 18 inch tire and Arnott said that I needed to go with 13 inch shocks for that exact reason.

And to be honest why wouldn't you go to a 13. You can still slam the bike to 10.25 inchs which in my opinion with extended bags is straight slammed.

I am running the 18" with 12" shocks, not true on the tow truck they have a built in bump stop so I can drop all air and ride down the road no problem. Just make sure you have this bump stop built in I am sure it is but have not checked Arnott out in quite a while but I know they were hip to the need!

EDIT: I will have to check my shock length something is telling me mine may be 12.5 " shocks. I will try to get back to this post this weekend sorry for the confusion!

OK I went out and checked all the way up is 13" all the way down is the 10.5" so I would go with what denalion22 said also go with the 13" to have full range of what you need to accomplish. Ride height of your desire and the bump stops to keep you rolling in a failure.
