Thundermax autotune
Does anyone know how the thundermax atotune works and is it worth getting. Does it tune the map automatically. Planning on using it on my 2010 fltrx with a d& d fat cat. Thanks for all replies
Both of the very well-respected tuners in my city swear by ThunderMax + Auto Tune. I have not pulled the trigger yet, but will prob do it this summer. Then sell the PC-V. You can get by with a lot of different solutions and a LOT depends on what other mods you are dong (or have done).
I run it. I love it. I didn't have to many choices when I changed my ring gear to a 49 tooth. That was going to leave me with no cruise and speedo problems. I hook up about evey other week and accept trims and that is it. I was running a PCV and I think the bike runs better with the Tmax. It got rid of the small surges I was having at low rpm's. Expensive no doubt about it but when you compare to a dyno run or two it will easily pay for itself. I really don't have anybody around I would trust to dyno so that was my thought process when I made my purchase. By the way, A member here Dr. V twin is where I bought mine and the price was awesome even with overnight shipping because I just couldn't wait any longer than a day to get it on and start running it. Give him a call and tell him your a member here and see what his pricing is. I think you will be very happy with what you get.

My mechanic wanted me to go this way last year...... The Thundermax unit completely replaces the stock ECM. They are on the pricey side but everyone seems to swear by them. I don't want to promote another site but Harley tech talk is a very "pro" thundermax site whereas here everyone seems to run PC's or Tmax. I personally went with Fuelmoto this year, the price was right and the service is second to none - so far anyway!
I ran one for 3 years on my '07 Ultra. It did everything I needed it to do, bike ran great. I did have a cold idle issue after my cam swap that was base map related. Pete with Zippers fixed me up during Sturgis last year. I may very well go the T-Max route with the '11 Ultra in the future. You may want to look around in the tuning section for more detailed information.
I love mine that I installed on my dyna. It is a install and ride setup. Once in a while it is a good idea to plug into it and write the learned offsets the it has stored. Other than that install and ride, it will auto tune. I have had no problems with mine.

Just put my first 1000 miles on mine. Self install. Runs like a bat outta hell. I have a 2012 SG with Rinehart true duals, stage 1 a/c and added pulstar plugs. Just got back NY to Boston. Extremely good acceleration in 5th or 6th gear. I love it.
Ran a PC-III for several years with a 2 into 1 exhaust. Two trips to the dyno, & it still ran rough & hot. The problem wasn't with the PC-III, it was with the dyno tuner. I got tired of the problem, so I bought a ThunderMax with Auto Tune. I could feel the auto tune makin' adjustments the first few miles. The bike smoothed out & ran better by the first trim setting. By the third setting it was as close as it needed to be (1 to 3%). After that you don't need to update, but it will always trim it's self as you ride.
Auto Tune is the future of injection & electronic controls. A *good* tuner might do a better job on a dyno, but only noticeable under race conditions. I would have saved money over the PC-III & dyno tunes if I had just bought the ThunderMax to start with.
BTW, ThunderMax probably won't have a map with *exactly* the components you have on your bike. Their base maps are designed by displacement, intake, exhaust, & cam, but only within basic parameters. The auto tune begins adjusting immediately & under real world conditions. Your bike will run great within just a few miles.
