When the bike sits, and I go to grab the front brake, the lever has more travle the first time, after that the travel is decreased. In all case it works fine, but the first time I use it the travel is definilty more. Never had a HD with ABS, is this normal or do I need to have it bled? The bike is only a few weeks old. thxs.
I had this issue on my 10 EGC with ABS, it was a bad front master cylinder. If you worked the lever back and forth it would bleed off every time. May not be your issue but thought I would let you know. Does it do it whether the bike is running or not?
I would think if it does it when the bike is not running that would rule out anything to do with the ABS. I will check my new 11 Limited tonight and see if it does this or not. I don't recall that it did but I only have 70 miles on it. I think I would have it checked out, I don't think it should do that. The ABS is controlled electrically so I'm pretty sure that's not your issue. They may just need bled. Have you checked the level in the master cylinder? Could be low.
Thanks for the responses, yes it does it regardless if the bike is running or not.
I have read that many abs bikes have done this. Mine does to from what I have come up with it need to re bleed the system. Its kind of a odd issue for me because I often tap front brake lever 1-2 times to blink tail light before slowing when in traffic. For me its been a issue thats been a non issue because the way I ride. With all that crap said I am bleeding system this spring because I would prefer a firmer feel on front brake over all.
