Default clutch

picked up an 07 electraglide police bike about a month ago, havnt been able to ride it much due to the snow, had a nice day this weekend and took it for a good ride, found out the clutch is slipping pretty good, bike has 7,000 miles on, i tried adjusting the cable and the clutch itself but didnt seem to help, i can bring it back to the dealer i got it from but not sure what they are gonna do about it, probably throw a stock clutch back in it, but i plan on doing some engine work and dont want another stock clutch to fail, they will replace the stock clutch under warranty hopefully but im not sure if i should put an aftermarket heavier clutch in it my self.

what are some opinions about this, thanks

Welcome to the Forums.

Did you follow the procedure in the manual?

2. Previous owner on my bike used a fluid from another supplier which made the clutch respond very differently than with the H-D fluid.

Once I went back to H-D fluid, the clutch required adjustment for proper function, cable needed adjustment to put the lever feel where I like it.

- and you are sure the jam-nut didn't come loose?

yes i followed the service manual procedure and during the process i had a friend who is a tech at a dealer double check it and he said it was adjusted properly, i bought it from a h-d dealer wich does all the maintanace on the bike so im guessing it has hd fluid in it, it seems to hold ok in 1-3 but if i am cruising in 4-6 and roll into the throttle it slips

Yes, that is worth a conversation with the Seller.
Call first and ask ( since we hope it'll be on him) if they would prefer to pick it up, rather than slip all the way there.

And...talk to them about putting in a heavier clutch (if it's fried). I'm sure they'll do whatever you wish, but you'll have to pay difference. Good luck - hope they get 'er fixed...spring's com'n (daylight savings this weekend)!

Well if your that sure you adjusted correctly and it still slips sounds like the clutches are worn out.

Time to tear it down and pull the clutch basket. You'll know when the primary fluid stinks of burnt clutch or the discs are blackened.

Shouldn't need this at 7k, but maybe it's been poorly adjusted for awhile and road like that, wearing down the clutch prematurely.
