Default Possible 2002 Road King Classic Purchase

Are there any known problems with a 2002 Road King Classic? Is this motor rubber mounted? Would a 2003 or 2004 year model be better? If I do pull the triger, what should I look at on the 2002 before purchase?

Yes, rubber mounted. 02 is a good year. Last year of the Timken engine bearing and forged cranks, first year of the Delphi injection (unless of course it's carbed). Just keep an eye on the tensioners if it still has them.

I've got 33k on my 2002 and I really like my bike. From what I've read around this place, that particular year was an excellent one for this particular model (Timken, Delphi).

Except for a flat last year my bike has never had any problems nor left me on the side of a road. How many miles does the one your looking at have? If its near 20k or above, ask for service records, has the oil in the forks been changed yet? Have a tech at the dealer or indy shop check it out.

Good luck.

I've had no problems to speak of with my '02 RKC. I just had the tensioners check/replaced at 30K.

As has been said, probably the best year for a TC. Change out the tensioners for the hydraulic ones and you have what I think is a winner.

..I agree with all the above posts..no real big difference between the 02, and 03-04, so don't worry about missing any big changes between those years...same motor, same frame,..

The bike has 22,000 miles on it, has been serviced by the local Harley shop in Charlotte. I'll ask about the tensioners and if the front fork oil has been changed. Thanks for the help guys.

02 is as close to perfect as HD as ever been. If I could pick a bagger to start a build with, it would be an 02 fuel injected RKC with a 95" BB with the new frame and brembos. Yeah, I want the whole tamale...

My '02 is a great bike. I changed out the cam tensioners and went to a gear drive at 15K. The tensioners were almost junk then. A gear drive cam makes the 02 engine darn near bullet proof, according the the indy that installed the gear drive cams. I've had 0 problems with my 02. Mines got 24,000 miles on it.

Good luck.
