06 has the Harmon Kardon stereo which may not make a difference to you. Helps in resale but you would have much better tunes with an aftermarket sony, kenwood etc. The 06 models do not run hotter. I know because i ride both years on a regular basis. In my area the 06 would bring considerably more than the 04. Someone suggested you find an 07 for less heat and the 6 speed....Not! An 07 will fry your passengers feet and the 6 speed is useless until you get on interstate. Just my .02
Actually, I have been searching cycle trader and local classifieds for some time. In the Northeast decent condition Harleys, in general seem way overpriced and not much negotiation. Last week was at a local HD dealer looking at an 06 Road King, pretty much stock with 16k. Their price was 14,900. When I pointed out that a NEW one was only 18,500 and I couldn't consider paying that much, the salesman laughed and said "No problem. we'll sell it to somone else for our price" I almost considered going back to BMW but I have an 07 XL1200R that I love and besides I'm into too much in Harley clothes for the wife!
Feels like too much money for either of them. They are both 88ci 5 speeds. Just cause they're low miles doesn't mean they haven't depreciated.
I say $6K tops for the 04. The EPA was forcing the bikes to run lean by 06 so that one will run hotter.
For that kind of money look for a clean 07 and get the 6 speed and a 96ci engine.
....$6K for a 2004 EGC?...I don't think so....maybe someone about to go to the can..or in a nasty divorce...but 10-12K is more in line with what they go for...
06 is kind of a bastard year they were trying to meet epa. although i havent seen talk of it here i have seen 2 06 with catalytic conveter in the right side muffler and know a engine builder that swears 06 has lower compresion than the rest of the 88 inchers.
