I have a marine upholester make custom covers for my boat. Consider this for your soft lowers. Create a drawing with dimensions and then get a quote. You can choose from a number of different materials. (Check out the black cloth used for Corvette convertible tops.) A custom piece might cost more than an off the shelf item, but you'll get exactly what you want.
Just got my soft lowers from AirLite. Great quality construction. However upon installation I found much more air buffeting around the head while riding at 55 - 60. Is this because I ride a Street Glide with the fairing or is this common to all soft lowers?
TDs, don't know which set you got from HD (they offer vinyl and cordura) but I've never had any issues with the vinyl ones. They always fit over my highways no matter where I put them plus they're cheaper than anything else out there. Probably the best buy accessory HD offers.

Check out Chilhowee...they're up in the Pacific NW and they'll probably build what you want. They did some custom work for me a couple years ago and they're a +1 company to deal with.
I have the airlite. Just had one season but on a 8000 km trip last year went through some nasty weather and so far they have held up very well. They are more expensive then others but I am happy. Just velco but well made and no issues with fit. http://www.airlite.ca/
You might want to look at these. $75 and custom made for your bike (pegs and lamps cut outs). Learned bout these on a Roadglide forum. I haven't bought a set but want to this year. A couple of members on that forum purchased them and liked them. There isn't a website, but you can contact via a facebook link. Shellies Soft Lowers.

...ya..I agree...I have the "cordura" I guess...kinda like a canvas material...think I paid about 49.95 a few years ago...I had to take a razor and make the highway-peg slit about 1/4 inch wider for my pegs..but other than that I think they are good...and a bargain...
I found a used set on ebay for $25.00. they are nice quality. You can see them in my sig pic, large opening for your pegs. They make a huge diference in Cold Weather, and with wet roads.
FYI *WARNING* You can't run them in temps much higher then 50 deg. I was out the other day and it was close to 60 deg and I was running way hot. Oil temp gage was @ 230 deg, and the bikes eng temp sensor shut her down. Just not enough air flow to cool the engine.
