Exclamation Faring Cap Removal

I am trying to remove the Faring Cap on a 2010 Streetglide, I have the 1st part completed ( removing the part that the key goes into). Now I need to remove the rest; the service manual says something about some special tool. Is that needed? My end goal is to install the switch for the Black LED Aux lights.

Thanks in advance!
TONY

I've got the 2 torx screws off, but I can't get the cap off.

Special tool is for the ignition so you can turn it back to the off position from the fork lock position, otherwise if you turn you bars with the ignition switch out the forks are going to lock.

You can remove the ignition fairing cap without the tool like Krazy3 said

If you want to make your own ignition tool there were several threads on here about how to do it, one guy made a good video of the whole process you are doing now using the tool he made.

You need to take off the nut on the ignition switch. It is under the plastic pop in piece. The one that says Run, ACC

No special tool needed. I just used a long sears flat blade, it was the perfect size and worked like a charm..

I think you can get it out without doing that. That allows you to unlock your forks to turn the front end. For what you are doing, you may not have to do that, but I could be wrong.

The silver part that's left where the ignition came out of needs to come out. it's a 7/8 nut. You can use a crescent wrench or a 7/7 open end wrench to get it off. then there's another piece that slides off, then the spacer. I just did this yesterday on my '11.

Once you do it the first time it will all make sense..

I just did this yesterday to wire a garage door button in. This is method has more steps but its just as easy & no need for the tool unlock & move the forks.

1- Disconnect negative battery cable
2- Remove dash assembly. Put a towel over the battery & put the dash assy there
3- Remove the 2 outside torq screws holding the cap on
4- Move forks left & remove the switch cap per the manual
5- Nut & Spacers - Mark the assy with a black marker for ease of reassembly & remove the switch nut & spacers below the nut
6- Remove fairing cap & do what ya need to
7- Reassemble switch assy - If you line up the black dots, its torqued close enough
8- Reassemble the rest in reverse order

Anyway... its how I do it
