Hey whats going on I have heard about this being done didnt know if anyone has it done and your opinion of it.. I have heard of a local seat guy that takes your seat and shaves it down a little bit and inserts a gel pad in there for more comfort and then recovers it.. Is it worth it for that long ride for the added comfort? Thanks!
Theres a local seat guy Ive been doing business for almost 20 years and he is starting to do the gel insert on motorcycle seats. Some day I will look into one.
Had this done on our Ultra and it was worth it. My wife wanted to do this and I thought it was a bunch of hooey. She had a blue gel pad that she liked until it lost it's elasticity. Talked to a local bike upholster that does this. He uses the orange gel that is much better than the blue. He had used the blue gel on some bikes a long time ago and had to replace them, the blue gel doesn't last. Since it was done I don't hardly use the highway pegs. Plan on having it done on the new bike.
Almost 15 yrs. ago, I owned a 93 FXSTC and I did everthing I could to get
the vibes off me, grips, syn. handbar bushing, foot pegs and single fire ign.
BUT the greatest single help was when I had the stock seat hollowed out
and a gel insert installed. MOST defiantly the best bang for the buck! Tenn.
I had a le pera Silouette with Gel Insert on a 07 Road Glide. I rode from Sturgis to the Bay Area in a 1.5 days. Yes, I was beat up but I would of been with any seat.
I had a gel pad installed in my 08 flhx and didn't seem to help. Sent the seat to mean city cycle they took it out and reworked the seat and it's better now without the gel pad an their work.
I had a sundowner on my RKC that I put the gel insert in. I couldn't tell it was in there. When its hot outside, the sun heats it up tremendously and it burns your a%$.
Ditto, have talked to a lot of guys that have tossed their gel pads. Talk to the guys at MCC about redoing it with their mwmory foam. Did it here and no complaints
