Default Do I have to add a tuner immediately?

I've just got my 2011 Street Glide 103. I had a pair of Rinehart 3.5 slipons I added right off the bat. I'd like to eliminate the cat next by purchasing the Jackpot header from Fuelmoto. Can I run it like this until I can afford the tuner? I'll add tuner and air filter at the same time.

Sure. May not even need a tune.

You'll probably want to get the EFI tuner if you dump the cat header for the FuelMoto header. It would be worth the extra time waiting to get the Header/EFI Tuner/Air Intake from FuelMoto all at once. That way you can have the Troops at FM pre-load the EFI Tuner with a map for your Rinehart's, header, and intake. Not saying you can't run without the EFI tuner, but no guarantees how well the bike will run. It's a brand new 2011 103" SG... right?

I installed a set of Sampson long shot slip-ons on my 10 and it still runs great. I even run regular gas and have no pinging, hot or cold, at any time. I still have the cats and stock a/c also. I have just under 15,000 mile on her.

I'm running it now with the Rinehart slipons without any ill effects. My main concern is if I add the Jackpot header( to eliminate the cat) is it going to cause issues. So basically its like adding a non cat headpipe.

Slip-ons alone don't require a tuner. Slip-ons with the FM Header won't requre a tuner, but you will not get all of the benefits of your new exhaust system without the tuner. The bike will still run lean. I think you will be doing more harm than good without the tuner. I would wait until I could purchase the entire package. Essentially, you are taking a gamble. The bike may or may not run ok. One thing for certain is that it will still run lean. I have had this discussion recently with FM. They will be more than happy to take your money, but the setup will be less than optimal. I would purchase the whole setup from FM so that they could also include the map on the tuner. I wouldn't piece-mill on a brand-new bike.

Thanks for all the replies. I emailed Jamie at Fulemoto and he says I'll be OK with this set up. I know I wont see any performance gains but I want to eliminate that cat and the heat. I think I'll wait anf get it all at the same time. Don't wanna chance it on a new ride.

yeah, i think you're worrying too much. i ran my bike with the stock a/c and tune with just a catless head pipe and nightstick for 13,000 miles/1 year with no issues. no pinging (even in the hot la summers), fuel mileage was still up in the high 40s (mixed riding), and it was definitely cooler on my right leg. yes, there was still some heat there, but it was not unbearable. bike ran great as well. no stumbling, surging, or backfiring.

but i do now have the pv and the fm se ac.

Sounds like a lot of folks have different experiences with the 103's.

From my experience, a tuner is a must even for a completely stock bike... In stock form, my 103 Limited would ping excessively whenever the temperatures were above about 85 degrees. Even with the tuner and A/F ratios in the 13.0-13.8 range I had to back the timing off a touch to completely eliminate the pinging.

If you're not getting any pinging, like many others have claimed they haven't, then I'd say take your time... Otherwise get the tuner as soon as you can.

That's my opinion.
