Default Removing Fork Tube Plug

How the hell do ya do it? I've tried everything short of a pipe wrench to keep the tube from turning, with no luck. Finally I decided to bite the bullet and shell out the 20-25 pesos, or whatever HD wants for the clamp. That is until I went to buy it! $149.99!! Are you kidding me?! There isn't a bullet made that would make that easier to swallow. So the question is... any suggestions?

I know some of you have powdercoated their fork legs and been through this before. There has to be a way to take them apart without buying this clamp. How did you do it?

Just hold them with the bottom part of the triple clamps. You can also drill a 1 9/16" (41mm) hole in a 2x4, then cut it in half and clamp in vice.

Take the top fork cap out. Drop the fork in the tripple clamp a couple of inches. Tighten the triple clamp. Loosen the spring cap. Drop the fork. Have a friend hold the tude and remove the cap. Keep your hand on top of it so it doesn't pop off.

I looked at the harley tool and just took some hard plastic and cut a V notch like HD did. I used a thin piece of rubber from a door weather strip. Wrapped the tube with the rubber, put the clamps around it and held it in place with my workmate bench. A quick hit on the wrench with a hammer and it came loose fast. Pic. attached

Just need a good throttle hand to hold it.
