Cruising beside a Buell I've had my FLHX at 140mph,.....smooth as glass but that was a 2008 model. No way in hell I'd do that with my FLTRX 2011, it gets screwy at 90mph.
And then your alarm clock went off, and you woke up...... right?
On a back road outside of Sturgis this year, I had it up to 112 MPH, fully loaded with a tour pak, and the OL on the back. But that was in sixth, before I realized that you can get more out of it in fifth.
108mph (GPS) was fast enough for me fully loaded, TP and the OL on back!
I've owned a few crotch rockets myself back in the day but there's nothing like spanking one on a Harley to put a great big grin on your face.
Sorry, not to start a flame war, but WHAT crotchrocket is going to lose to your FLHX? Even a 300lb guy on a GS500 could probably take 90% of the bikes on this forum in a 1/4 mile shootout.
Before I made the switch I was on a Yamaha FZ1. Buddy of mine talked up his SG that he dumped 5 grand into the motor alone. Wanted to run me side by side after going through a toll booth. By the time I shifted to 2nd he was letting off the throttle because he knew he was beat. That was at about 80mph. Sorry but even if you're pushing 120hp on your 850lb bike, that's not going to cut it against a 450lb bike with 140hp.
Harley's do so many things well. Fast isn't one of them.

My 120R Roadglide has totally smoked every mini van i have raced so far. I was handed my *** the other day by some teenage chic in a Subaru WRX though.

How fast can one of these baggers run in the quarter? I bought mine purely to poke around and enjoy, I've got a fast enough car to get my speed jollies. But the more I'm reading the more I'm seeing how slow these are, like slower than the average newer car?
I agree, there is no chance of beating any 600 or bigger crotch rocket that was made in the last 10 years. Weight and aero are so much in the favor of the small bike I can't imagine overcoming them w/ a big twin.
I've had a gps mounted on my last 2 Street glides and I must have had the bad misfortune to buy 2 slow pigs. The 2009 had a PCV, a/c and rush mufflers. 107mph was all I could muster laying on the tank and just letting her run. The speedo was showing 115mph. My new ride is a 2011 CVO with TTS tuner, Fullsac header, and V&H high outputs. It's been to 111mph but I let off until I get a few more miles on her. Even if there were a 10 percent increase in hp you might only see a couple miles per hour difference in any of these bikes due to drag being relatively the same. Some of these guys must be running on the moon.
One night I ran into my buddy on the freeway as I was coming home from work and we were messing around and ended up cruising at 115 for a little bit. Slowed down and as we got back into 10 of the speed limit there was a cop taking radar.
Raced my buddy in his 97 GTI I beat him up to 80 and then rolling on from there he slowly broke away and at 100 he was gone and it became not worth my time to try and keep up.
