Thanks to Bowa18 and the rest of you I installed the new SE Comp on my 09 RK without a hitch. I had to open the grind points a little from the 9 - 6 o'clock position. My worry was pulling the cover. I thought the magnets would be much harder to do this.
Starting it for the first time i noticed no loud banging. It now purrs like a kitten. Power is now instant. Even a little throttle will sit you back. And best of all is the slow riding is smoother.
Although it would have lasted much longer, it was worth it.
I bought a 1/2 torque wrench and 1 3/4 wrench from northern tools. I have a store near me and the torque worked great- $89.00. The 1 3/4 open/box was only $20.00. It was very heavy and made torquing easy.
Thanks to everyone for your help. As I said before---- this is a great site!
Will this work on my wifes 08' Heritage? Her bike sounds like it's grinding sometimes when she tries to start it,so she has to let off of the start button and try it again, sometimes 3-4 times before it will start. I was told it was the compensator.
Sounds like the same problem I had. Does it sound like a "box of Rocks" rattling around? Does it "hit hard" sometimes?
It fixed mine, but I can't tell you if it's your problem or not.
Yes it sounds just like that. I have heard that Touring and Softail models did this until HD fixed the problem in 2010,and I know that my 2008 RG did this too but not my 2012 RG.
2011 deluxe observations - note: i did this mod to my 2010 flhtk a year ago with no issues following the directions from the OP. i had to grind only a little off.
i started this mod on my deluxe and i'm still grinding. i have completely taken off the lip from 6:00 - 10:00 and it still won't come out. tomorrow morning i am going to grind some more and will begin to thin the wall between 8:00 and 10:00. it's the only way it will come out and i don't want to take off the inner primary at this point.

it's so true about how the cases are different
anyone else with a newer softail run into this?
thx - tin
yep i did the samething on my softail... a 08 crossbones....
Just wanted to chime in and let you all know that I did the SE Compensator Kit on my 2008 Ultra Classic today. It took me a few extra hours because I just wanted to do it once.
Subscribed for when I tackle this project, I'm hoping to wait until they improve the SE version. It seems that some of the problems are fixed & other problems arise,it would be nice if the MOCO could get this problem figured out & find a proper fix.
