Default Batwing Removal

Need some tech advice, I tried to take the painted side of fairing off my Street Glide to get at the stock mirrors so I took the two screws I know about on the inside of the fairing and the three that hold the windshield and removed the bezel around the headlight but the fairing still wouldn't come off, not easily anyway, and I didn't want to push it so I ended up pulling it back enough to fit a wrench and got the stock mirrors off but would still like to know the best way to get the fairing off. Thanks

There are 7 screws that hold the fairing on. 3 at the windsheild and 4 on the backside. 2 are located at the outer most edge of the fairing just below the handgrips and 2 are located on the inner side of the forks down below. Removing the headlight bezel is not necessary, the headlight stays attached to the fairing.

There are 3 along the top, for the windshield. There is 1 along each side on the inner fairing side. Then there are 2 screws, one on each side, inside the top of the front forks at the bottom center of the fairing. At least on an 07 there is, I don't know what the '11's for sure have. The last 2 are the ones easy to miss.

The previous posts explain it well. You simply needed to remove two more screws - the ones' down by the forks.

When my bike is on my lift table with the front wheel locked straight ahead, the lower fasteners can be a little tricky to find and get a wrench to. They're much easier to see and get access to if you can turn the wheel.

Recommend leaving the one center windshield screw in until last. It helps to prevent the fairing from falling onto your fender. Those with passing lamps don't need to worry.
