My cousin has a 2000 Ultra and his stock HK head unit took a crap on him. He is looking for a replacement and I would like to know if anyone had any suggestions.
He wants to spend around 150-200 and would like to retain the functions of the hand controls if possible. Thanks
i have a stock HK outta of a 2009 streetglide but i cant sell it for $200 and it is in perfect working condition. if u go after market it will cost u at least $400.00 to $500.00 to use your hand controls u will have to by a retro kit ask me how i know.
For $250 he could send it to www.ironcrossaudio.com/ to refurbish it. I think they include a six month warranty and you can buy an additional six months for $50 (?).
He should check some things first - some trouble shooting. I don't remember everything but one thing to try is to pull the Maxi fuse and wait ?? minutes and reinstall, make sure the contrast is not turned down all the way making the screen blank, check fuses (2), software update, check for codes, etc.

Best bet for the money is to pick up a used factory stereo...
I'd let mine go for $250...
If you want to go aftermarket, don't fart around, do it right.. Buy Hawg Wired's hand control adapter, their DIN adapter and put something cool in like a JVC KD-AVX77... Total cost about $700 total for the whole setup... But nice..

If he has a 2000 ultra with a cassette and cb it is not a HK radio and I dont believe Iron Cross repairs that model.
My buddie has a takeout when we spent the big bucks to upgrade his system to cd. He might be interested in sell the cb/cass factory radio he removed from his 1999 ultra .
he can send it back to Radio Sound who is the manufacturer of the system. for 200 they will send a refurbished just like the one he sends in. Did mine back 2 months ago because CB was shot....everything good now.....the website is radiosound.com
have to call and get a number before shipping out and they'll need the VIN off the scoot....
