I don't think I'd like them on a Street Glide either, but in my book, that's a good reason for you to go for it! Post pics when you're done, so we can see 'em!
I agree with you guy's as far as the more modern look of the SG, however I believe the fishtails add an old school look. I think as long as it's done right (not too long) it looks great on the SG. I've seen a lot of pictures and am very impressed.
I'm running the 3 inch fishtails not the longtails they are the silver bullet 33 inch ones M-119. I think the 4 inch ones may be too quiet but thats a matter of taste, the 3 inch ones are baffled as well.
Just my humble opinion but I don't think Fish tails will look good on a SG. They would look better on a road king or heritage softail etc.
The SG is much to modern looking for fish tails.
I agree however if he really loves them to each his own. But I agree with you on this. The flhx is not a nostalgic bike imo.

Old school is good.
I love the look of fishtails on a touring bike. As far as I'm concerned, there's Samson and there's everyone else. The 36" mini cholos probably have the best combination of badass looks and sound, but the 33's look just fine too and are probably a little more practical.
A good friend has them on his bike, and it's got a very distinctive sound. It's a little more crisp and staccato sounding, which is definitely an old school sound. Modern exhaust systems like the 4" Rineharts, CFRs and fatcats sound good, but sound more like race cars than Harleys.
check out the Supertrapp se series for 10-11 models. You can put on numerous end caps including fisthtails so you can change up the look once and while and they sound great with stock cat head pipes.
