I'm just starting to research to get some louder pipes on my bike (2011 Road King Classic). This is my first HD, so bare with me as I'm sure I'll be asking some stupid questions.
What I want is a deeper sound from the bike. I'm not looking to be the obnoxious a**hole neighbor, so I don't want to go over the top, but I do want cagers to hear me on the road. Plus, it's a Harley, and it should sound like one...Currently at idle, I'd say she purrs, while I'm looking for a growl. When I hit that throttle I want to hear her crack.
Anyway, I've read to get V&H, I've read to get Wild Pigs, and honestly I'm not sure where to start.
I'm thinking I will just want to go with slip-ons. My understanding is that slip-ons will give me the sound but no performance increase/decrease. Replacing the pipes and air filter will give me both, however a much bigger and more $$$ job. I think my wallet says I have to wait for next year on that...
So back to my question--does anyone have recommendations for a 2011 RKC slip-ons for better sound, w/o over-doing it?
Or you can try the American Custom slip-ons. Choice of baffles and you can send your original mufflers back and get $90 bucks refunded. Mine should be delivered today!!!

I put the American Custom slip ons on my 09 Road King and run them without the baffles. Quick - EZ - get a really good Harley rumble out of them. If you get on em, they can be obnoxiously loud. I bought a set of mid range baffles but to me they make the bike sound stock. I also felt I needed and installed a V&H fuelpak (really EZ). It got rid of excessive popping that occured on decel.
Check out youtube for some sounds. Just search for things like "Road King Classic Vance and Hines".... or whatever pipe you are interested in hearing. That can give you a good idea of what the pipes will sound like.
