I bought the Quest II from Newegg.com and then bought the fairing mount and craddle from my Dealer. I was a little surprised when the craddle did not come with the mount and I had to spend another 100 bucks for it, but it's a very easy install and works great. The Quest II comes with the complete United States maps already installed and is very easy to read even in bright sunlight. It's nice to just take off anywhere you want, knowing that you don't have to worry about ever getting lost again.

BTW, I like your user name. Flight Engineer right? I was a 141 and 130 Engineer myself.

I had the Garmin Quest before I bought my Electra Glide. Just installed the Harley GPS Mount for it. It's the same unit without the Harley Dealership locations loaded, but it's a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than the Harley unit.

The Quest II is nice in that it already has the City Navigator Maps for the US preloaded, but you do not get the Mapsource CD with it. YOu have to pay an additional fee to get the CD.

If you are just needing to find a destination and go, the Quest II is great. But if you plan on mapping specific back road routes, and then loading them to your Quest, you need the CD software loaded on your PC. It is very difficult to do this on the unit itself. I organize week long rides on specific roads and byways, so I need the convenience of using mapsource on my PC to find and develop the best ride routes for the trip.

I thought about buying the Quest II and paying the additional fee for the Mapsource CD, but the service rep did concede that the Quest II is a little slower in calculating routes, etc. because of the size of the pre-loaded detail maps already loaded.

With the Quest, you just have the base map (major cities and highways) for the US preloaded. then you just download the specific detail map sections of the routes you plan to ride, or the area of the country you are going to ride.

So far, I have been on trips crossing several states and have had enough memory to load the map sections for all the routes I planned to ride.

They both are great units--just depends on how you plan to use em. I hear they are coming out with a special unit just for motorcycles later in the year, but it won't fit the current Harley mounts. I highly recommend either the Quest or the Quest II.

I never leave home (on a trip) without one.
