+1 on using it for a gps. No problems. Got a real short charger plug from the source to make sure no contact with the frame when turning.

FYI

My Garmin draws 2 amps max from DC - so says Garmin tech ...

The Garmin original 12 volt power cord multi-prong ($35) has a surge protector built into it, & aftermarket DC power cords ($5) that use the Garmin USB as a "power in" have no surge protection.

I hard wired my Garmin original DC power cord under the fairing and ran the power wire out to the Garmin location. And use my aftermarket DC USB power cord for other uses ... not on the bike

not that a surge protector is necessary - but not a bad thing to have either

The HD Cigar lighter can double as a power point - BUT - my Chevy Avalanche LTZ powerpoint cannot double a a Cigar Lighter (slight different designs)

HD worries that someone will try to draw way too much power through the cigar lighter as a powerpoint and keep burning fuses or burn up something else
