I am interested in this thread as well. I had a rider backrest with the Mustang seat on my last bike for over 3 years. When I picked up my new FLHTK on Friday, I thought I'd give myself some time to decide if I need one for the new bike. After a 200 mile last Sunday, I am thinking I may go ahead and get one.
I know HD has several types and Mustang has a kit. Who else makes them that will work with the stock seat?
I have and use one would not ride without, since have back issues however the wife doesn't like it when she is on the back states it is uncomfortable between the legs. so may have to get something else or just use her as the back rest when she rides.

I bought the adjustable one from HD. While riding this week on a 300 miler, I found that adjusting the backrest to different positions helped on the ride.
I like the one on my new bike, but I loved the one on my old bike. I think Mustang did a great job and found it to be more comfortable than the Harley one. I will be trying it out on a long ride soon.
I am planning on taking some long trips on the bike this year and was considering adding a rider backrest.
If you have one do you like it and would you recommend it?
Thanks, Craig
I have the HD model. I rode from NH to Milwaukee in a group of 4 and was the only one that had one. I cant imagine a ride like that without it. The other guys were wishing they had one.
What I did find out, much to my chagrin, is that mine will only work with the stock seat. I bought another HD seat because the wife doesn't like the stock seat and although the new seat has a slot in it which you would think would accept the backrest, It doesn't.
